El Clasico - Always Anticipated

El Clasico - Always Anticipated

The first El Clasico of the season saw Barcelona outclass Real Madrid 3-2 in the 1st leg of the SuperCopa de Espana 2012, which is played by the victors of the Copa del Rey and La Liga. The return of the El Clasico marks the every-lasting rivalry between these two powerhouses. But why do people always count down to the tie? What makes it, "Clasico"? It's more than just a game.

The El Clasico is the lollipop with no expiry date. The lollipop never fails to deliver, similarly, the El Clasico always impresses us. We just can't wait to tear off that annoying wrapper that seperates us from the delight inside, just like how we long for the countdown clock to reach 0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds. But when we do manage to rip it off, we realise that it was worth the frustration we experienced when trying to unwrap the lollipop. We indulge in this treat, but why do we enjoy it? The lollipop with its splendid colours, so pleasing to the eye. The lollipop's sweetness satisfies your tastebuds. Xavi's intelligent passes, Lionel Messi's magic touches, Iker Casillas's amazing saves, Cristiano Ronaldo's twist and turns - we live on it.

We savour this candy-coated delicacy, ignoring the great amount of sugar inside it, while fans willingly suffer from El Clasico fatigue, staying up late to catch the enchanting game. The frenzy and buzz surrounding the match is so great that you may be forgiven from dozing off at work on the next morning. We simply cannot get enough of El Clasico.
